today in class 10.30.14
Today in Human Geogeraphy, Mr. Schick went over our pop quizzes from last week with us. I will be sure to use it when I study for our upcoming test. Once we finished, we started working on our country power points. I was having problems with the internet, but I got it sorted out afterwords. Jessica and I are about at our Eigth slide, and we have been focusing mostly on Pena Nieto, the president.of Mexico. Today was a pretty easy day. Mr. Schick said a few things about getting sources with legitimate information , such as newspapers' websites and sites with a later date of publication. Jessica and I will need a little more time working on our projects, but we both hope to have a very good power point presentation.

cross country championships
Today, I was not in Human Geo class because I was at the IAAM champonships at Oregon ridge on 3 mile hilly course. championships went pretty well considering we were not a strong team this year, but learned a lot that will improve myself as a runner. The team did as expected, 6th place out of 8 teams, which was probably a disapointment for the sophomores, juniors, and seniors, because the team won championships last year. I was glad to end my freshman cross country season running on varsity, and being the number 2 girl on John Carroll's Cross country team, especially after coming off an appendicitis. Adria finished first for John Carroll ( and in the top ten overall at a time of 20:10), and I was second for John Carroll, barely, it was less than a one second difference (21:06 and 21:07). Afterwords, we all met in a building at Oregon Ridge for awards. We were all sad to see Mcdonough get the trophy that was once ours, but that is what will make us a better team next year. On the way back to school, we stopped at Wegmans and had dinner. The ride home was so much fun, because Emma and I split a full sized container of ice cream, and that was the best decision we ever made ( oh yes, we ate the WHOLE thing, minus a few spoonfuls from fellow ice cream lovers).

10.28.14 class today
Today in Human Geogeraphy class, Mr. Schick introduced us to a project we are working on in class. Some of the partners paired were very surprising, and I am interested to see how their projects will turn out. We spent the remainder of the class working on our power point presentations. Jessica and I are doing Mexico for our project. I had a little trouble getting pictures onto the power point slide because the pictures were so large. Jessica worked on putting the pros and cons to Mexico's leader, Enrique Pena Nieto. although we did not get too far with our time, we at least got everything set up (ie created the power point, shared it, chose back ground, and got the title put together) I am very excited to get our project started, and am excited to see how everyone's turns out.

class today 10.2414
Today in class, Mr. Schick surprised us with a pop quiz. The answers to the questions that were either written in my blog, or discussed a lot in class were very easy, but the others were very tricky. Congrats to Paj or getting a 100 on that quiz. There were many other people that had A's as well. today was a very laid back class, because after the quiz, we just talked about our class' scores and stuff in that era. Today was the last day of the quarter and I wish I had a little bit more time. this first quarter went by so quickly, I can still remember my first day of school, which was everyone else's third. I just hope the next three quarter.

class 10.23.14
Class began with Mr. Schick telling us about how he graduated from high school in only 3 and a half years. Next, the class was curious to know what the international students do on the weekends, and Jon relieved us of our curiosity. After that, we discussed how the guy who jumped th white house fence was from Bel Air. We resumed from where we left off yesterday

class today 10.22.14
Today in class, we began by discussing some of the events that occurred to some of the world's most powerful leader that may have effected their success in becoming the leaders of these powerful nations. Mixed in with the conversation, we discussed whether parents should hit (span, or slap) their children for disciplinary reasons. we also discussed how sometimes people come to America and decide that this is what they want for their country, as Zach said. At one point in class today, we hit a spot when no one had anything to say in class, but class eventually started rolling again. We started talking about Pena Nieto's Scandalist actions, which ended up rolling into other politicians' faults.

today in human geo 10.12.14
Today in Human geography class, we went over our sixty-point assignments. Mr.Schick corrected the students who copied and pasted pictures inot their blogs. Mr. Schick wanted us to download photos to out desktop, and then insert the picture to our blogs. Mr. Schick did have a good reason, when pictures are copied and pasted into bogs, they can not be viewed by other viewers. During the second part of class, we researched some of the leaders of other countries.
President Pena Nieto
The president had 3 children with her first wife. Years later, she died due to epilepsy. The president hired a soap opera actress to help him with political campaigns. the two eventually fell in love, and got married.
Joachim Gauck
Both of Gauck's parents were Nazi Party members. When Gauck was only 11 years old his father was arrested by soviet occupational forces.
Bashar al-Assad

David Cameron
David Cameron agreed to the Scotland Independence referendum last month.
Stephen Harper
He is the first prime minister to come from the newly reconstitute conservative party.
Pranab Mukherjee
His father was very active in the Indian Independance Movement
Francois Holande
He was longtime leader of the socialist party
Shizno Abe
He is Japan's youngest post war prime minister.
Vladimir Putin
His anscestory is a mystery, as there are no surviving records of his ansestors with the last name Putin beyond his grandfather.
Dilma Rouseff
She is the 36th president of Brazil, and the first women to hold office.
Benjamin Netanyahu
He is the first prime minister born in Israel after the establishment of the state.

class today 10.17.14
Today in human geography we learned about political geography. We looked at what makes a country a country, a nation a nation, a state a state, and what a nation state is. A country is any identifiable land area. a nation is a population with a common culture, and a state is a population under a single government. A nation state is just what it sounds like, a single culture under a single government. Then we went over what our weekend assignment will be, to research the politics om 12 countries that the united states are dealing with. They are Mexico, Germany,Syria, Canada, UK, China, India, France, Japan, Russia, Israel, and Brazil. This is a sixty point assignment, and am ready to get started.

class today 10.16.14
Today in class we went over our test results. The class as a whole scored very well. I was surprised that I got the answer to question number 22 correct because I guessed. I did not know that if the TFR is 2.1 or above, the population goes up. Nor did I know that if the TFR is 2 or less, the population goes down. But, now I understand why as I am thinking about it. I made sure to take plenty of notes as Mr.Schick went through the test with us, as I know that tests are a major tool for studying. I did not do too well on the CIA world fact book section, but that's because I am naturally a slow worker. My strategy for that section was to go through the things I was positive I could get the answer to in less than in a minute, and then good everything else. I do wish I had played around with the site more,and I would have known that South Korea was listed as Korea, South. I could not find it in the alphabetical list, while taking the test. The test was a learning experience, and am glad to have it for exams.

today in human geo 10.07.14
class began with the question " is America the greatest country in the world?" Mr. Schick mentioned that after we saw an eight minute video with an actor drumming off statistics about how we are not the best country in the world, we automatically began to think the same way about our country. So, after Mr. Schick announced that we do have a quiz this week, he had us prepare by going on the CIA world fact book. Our task was to research facts about how America is or is not the best country in the world. The most interesting point was that the US produces the second most amount of oil in the world, yet we import a lot as well. This was pretty scary because we may not have a sustainable amount of oil in the future. Mr. Schick proposed the idea of solar panels. He mentioned how much cheaper it is and how better it is for he environment. Some people in the class had a hard time accepting this idea, but I thought that the idea was genius.

class 10.3.14
Class began today with a clip from the television series " the news room". The part about how "America is not the greatest country, but it can be" really stuck in my mind. Our lives seem great in the us, but we aren't the best country to live in. For example, we do not have the greatest public education. When I gt home, I did some research on this topic. Finland and Japan have h best education. America is ranked around 15. After the clip, we had a debate that evolved into America's independence. A small percentage of the class believed that Americans should remain independent, while a larger percentage of the class thought it would be easier to trade, make allies, and help other countries.

Today in class 10.01.14
Today was a more layed back, relaxed day. It was the last mod of the day so people were tired anyways. Our class mainly revolved around music.Mr. Schick asked the class how they would feel about doing a project on a country be choosing a song that represented their weaknesses strengths, problem, and goals. Everyone seemed to like the idea, no one objected. Mr. Schick later said that he was working on some group that was trying to show that music benefits education. Spotify gave enough passes for each student in Mr Schicks class to have a free spotify account for a year. We spent the remainder of the class period setting the account up and listening to music. I am very excited for this project we will do ,and I think that it will be very fun.
