the final test

Today we had the final unit test in Human Geogeraphy. It was on North and south Korea. The few questions on South Korea confused me, because I didn't have any notes on South Korea to study with. I had idea what the captial of South Korea was. Apperently it is Soeul. I guess I will now that for the future. The test was certainly easier than the exam. That seemed to just be a guessing game. The class average was an 89, congrats section 4. We had two people with a 100% in the class, Kendall and Cody. This was a good class and i certatinly cannot wait for western cicilization.

1.15.15

Today was the last class with discussion in Human Geogeraphy with Mr. Schick, because tomorrow is technically the last day, but we will be having a test that day, and wont be able to have our interesting conversations. We began class more trditional than usual because he had a teacher, Mr. Hollin, sit and watch the class. However, as soon as he left, things went back to normal . We waged the pros and cons of dropping a nuclear bomb North Korea. Cody was sold on the idea as soon as he heard that Kim Jong Un killed his own uncle and his uncle's family.  4 students in the class agreed with him. I was completely against it. I am predicting that the country will collapse eventually, and we (as in the united states) won't have to lift a finger to pose a threat to North Korea. The people in that country are dying of disease and harsh rule, all a nuke will do is speed up the process. Also, if we do any harm to North Korea china, their allie with the largest army in the world, would surely attack us. And then, we are allies with South Korea, who strogly dispise North Korea. This seems to be the way World War I started. Does the US really want to risk WWIII to speed up the process of the collapse of North Korea? No, of course not. The us should try to remain independant of North Korea. Also, the United States is allies with South Korea, and the nuclear bomb will do them alot of harm. I wish that we had just one more day of class to complete this discussion, but i was glad to hear that 2/3 of our class will be in that room next semester for western civilization.

1.14.2015

Today in class, we went over the material that will be on the test on Friday. One thing that really shocked me was the crazy myths made up about Kim Junk Il to make him more popular, that the people were forced to believe. That is just the type of country North Korea is, a country that will do anything so that it can view only itself as the best country with the best leader. Anyone else in the country knows that North Korea is a terrible place to live. north Korea does " crazy" things at the expense of their people, such as prohibiting people from entering and leaving the country, prohibiting trade, and concentration camps. Will North Korea get any better soon? The answer would be no. A leader with that much power would not just "give it up". In fact, people believed tht Kim Jung Un would turn that country around because he has traveled to Europe and has seen a country with happy people living in it.

end of documentary

Today in class, we viewed the remainder of the documentary about the doctor who was performing surgery on blind people living in North Korea. After watching the part about the concentration camps, it becomes clear to the viewer how the citizens are ruled with an iron fist. It was quite scary how if one person did something the slightest bit illegal, his whole family would be imprisoned for life . What shocked me at the end of the film was when the blind people could finally see again. instead of thanking the doctor, they thanked their dear leader. One thing that stuck with me was when the narrator said how there was no difference between being loyal to their leader, and acting like they love their leader out of fear.
When the documentary was finished,  Mr. Schick was telling us the three grades that would still be put in the grade book. The one that the class discussed the most was class participation. They enjoyed talking about which students would recieve an A for participation, and which wouldn't.
I am pretty nervous about the test this friday, as I haven't been taking good note.

Documentary on North Korea

Today, we took a break from our usual discussion with many thoughts and ideas, by watching a movie on North Korea. It starred a doctor who had a mission to help over a thousand people with cataracts be able to see again. It was very interesting to see how strict everyone was with the cameras,  and how the slightest disrespect to their leader could lead to imprisonment. On an even  sadder note, I found that It was quite depressing to see many malnourished children clinging on to their lives, and that a child in North Korea was 8 inches shorter and 20 pounds  lighter than their "brother" in South Korea. I was not aware of all the steps that had to be taken, just to get the leaders of South and north Korea to discuss common issues. This was a very well done documentary and look forward to seeing the end

Last class before exams

Today was not as serious a class as it should have been, as it was the last day before exams. We managed to get one task done, going over our political test. It was a fun class, despite being called a dog (but that just made it funny), After that Mr. Schick explained to us a chance to redo a test if we scored poorly on it, but thankfully that does not apply to me because my score was not low enough. This class was the last class of 2014, and we will miss John when he goes back to Korea to visit his family. Good day, and a good class- Thank you Mr. Schick

Test Review

Today we went over the test we took yesterday, and although I didn't do well on it, I still got a lot out of class. Mr. Schick gave us our scantrons, and tests that will be useful when studying for the exams. I need to work on studying the small details that compose our class
